RDA - West is part of the Kosovo Association of Regional Development Agencies which promote EU regional policy in Kosovo and support economic development.
The European Union Office in Kosovo has given a high priority to support Regional Economic Development (RED) in Kosovo in line with European best practices. The work commenced in early 2008 when the first technical assistance project started preparations and support for the establishment of a network of RDAs to cover the territory of Kosovo.
On June 2009 the European Union Office in Kosovo, based on a Grant Agreement, provided funding for the start-up and first 12 months of operation of the 5 RDAs.
In addition the European Union Office in Kosovo will provide funding for regional economic development projects in line with regional strategies. This grant scheme and awarded projects will be supported and coordinated by the RDAs.
The European Union Office in Kosovo is committed to support the RED process in Kosovo over current programming period. As a part of this commitment the RDAs are given an opportunity to benefit substantial financial support over a period of five years. The European Union Office in Kosovo financial contribution to the RDAs is conditional requiring adequate progress and results to be achieved over each 12 months of operation.
The Regional Development Agency - West has been founded in December 2008 as partnership of the municipalities of Peja/Peć, Decan/Decani, Istog, Klina, Junik to act and function as a coordinator and driver of development activities in the Economic Region West and its Municipalities.
The municipality of Gjakova signed the partnership agreement on 10th of March 2011.
Finally, the RDA-WEST covers 6 Municipalities of WEST Kosovo: Pejë/Pec, Gjakovë/Djakovica, Istog/Istok, Klinë/Klina, Decan/Decani, Junik/Junik.
The Regional Development Agency (RDA-WEST) to become the key institution in the West economic region of Kosovo, engaged in fostering the EU Regional Economic Development (EURED) process in country, to confirm a strategic role towards its partners assisting in the interethnic reconciliation, and assisting in the integration of local governments into Kosovo’s European integration process.
Provide support for the development of EU Regional Policy in Kosovo and Regional development by:
1. Creating and effective interface between Regional Stakeholders (including Municipalities) and Government through the creation of operational and inclusive partnership structures;
2.Supporting Stakeholders to develop a Regional Strategy based on available statistics and regional intelligence (harmonisation of information from Municipal Plans)
3. Utilising a stake-holder-led approach to project implementation and securing improved absorption of development funding;
4. Applying good practice ‘cycle management’ techniques to improving strategy and associated project implementation;
5.Main-streaming the sustainability objectives of “Equality of Opportunity for All” and “Securing a Sustainable Environment”.
Developing an operational Management Information System to facilitate:
1. Creation of a Regional Project Pipeline
2. Responsive and accurate regional-level data management;
3. Information to attract inward investment and focus resources;
