Dodona Theater was established on November 12, 1986, by the Municipal Assembly of Pristina. Rabije Bajrami and Smajl Imeri contributed to the establishment of the theater.
The first show, a puppet show for children “The Forest Belongs to Everyone” was launched on May 16, 1987. It was also this year when Dodona was named as Theater for Youth, Children and Puppet Theatre “Dodona”.
Dodona started producing shows for grownups in the early 1990s – Evening Stage. From this time to the present, Dodona has produced over 35 premieres for children and over 70 premieres for grownups. In the same period, that is in 1992, Enver Petrovci was appointed as the first Head of Dodona.
Despite the violent measures of Serbian regime to Kosovo public institutions in 1994, Dodona continued working without interruption making this theater a bastion of culture in Albanian. From that time until 1999, Dodona has showed more than 400 different shows in both stages, children and grownups.
Dodona Theater, currently named Pristina City Theatre Dodona, has taken part in many national and international festivals, and received many awards. Some of the festival where Dodona shows were performed are: International Festival in Bitola, Macedonia, European Puppet Theater Festival in Pogradec, Albania, Albanian Theatre Festival in Debar, Macedonia, Cairo Festival, Egypt, Lugano Festival, Switzerland, Days of Albanian Culture in Paris, Puppet Theater Days in Mistelbach, Austria and etc.
Since 2011, Dodona hosts International Puppet Theater Festival with guest shows from the region and the world.
